Mary Gayle Stewart, Assistant to Senior Pastor (Tim)
![]() | |
Mary Gayle first attended CBC in the summer of 1971. She began volunteering in the office in the mid-80s and came on staff in 1987, serving initially as receptionist, then as assistant to the pastors, and since 1992 as assistant to our senior pastor.
Born and raised in the Seattle area, Mary Gayle moved to Phoenix after graduation from college, working in both the hotel and banking industries before joining the church staff. She has a brother, sister, and extended family in the Pacific Northwest, but considers the Body of CBC to be her local family.
Having been raised in a denominational church, and believing herself to be a Christian, it was not until coming to CBC and hearing God’s word preached that she fully understood her sinfulness and God’s mercy. She became a believer at age 30, receiving Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and has known increasingly the love of God through “thick & thin” ever since.
Along with Psalm 27 and Nehemiah 8:10b “… the joy of the Lord is your strength,” she names as a most meaningful Scripture Colossians 1:9-17, especially “…that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.”
