Don Swierenga serves as the Director of Ministry Development. In that capacity, he oversees the administration of the church with a priority toward aligning the ministries toward a long range vision. The role is intended to enhance effective collaboration between the pastoral staff, the elder board and all those who are part of the family at Camelback Bible Church. Don has been a member of Camelback Bible Church since 2001 and has held various lay leadership roles from teaching kindergarten Sunday School to leading a variety of teams.
Professionally his career began as garbage truck driver in Chicago during the summers while completing a business degree at Calvin College in 1981. Following twenty-five years in the waste industry that culminated in a corporate executive role, Don was led to attend Fuller Theological Seminary Southwest. The mission of that seminary is to prepare leaders, passionate for Christ, to do effective frontline ministry in a brokenworld. Upon graduation in 2010 with an M.A. in Christian Leadership he served in various capacities at Camelback prior to formally joining the staff on June 1, 2011.
As a father of four sons, Don spends as much time as possible with them. That includes maintaining ties to their midwestern roots during summers in Chicago and Michigan while getting away for occasional ski trips to Colorado in the winter. He continues to actively serve other Christian organizations as a volunteer or board member for Alongside Ministries, Fuller Theological Seminary Southwest and Neighborhood Ministries.
