Kurt & Susie Richardson

Campus Crusade for Christ - Northeast Regional Team

Ministry:

Susie and Kurt Richardson serve as part of the Northeast Regional Team with Campus Crusade for Christ.  Their scope includes all the colleges in New York and New England, over 2 million students altogether.

In August 2006, the Richardsons left the desert for Reading, Massachusetts.  Kurt has been a member of Camelback since 1980.  Susie joined Kurt and CBC in 1985.  They served as the Campus Crusade directors at Arizona State and Kurt served two terms on the CBC Elder Board.   All three of their children were born while they lived in Tempe.  After 21 years at ASU, Kurt transferred to Phoenix-based Harvest, an international mission organization which equips the local church worldwide to demonstrate God’s intentions in every area of life.  The Harvest curriculum meshed with their background in outreach to collegians, and the Richardson’s were drawn to the task of proclaiming the Gospel in Word and deed in the university-laden American northeast.

Based out of Boston, the area with the highest concentration of college students (including internationals) in the country, Susie and Kurt are privileged to be part of a team which includes several former Crusade colleagues and alums from ASU.  Their primary responsibilities include developing Crusade’s nascent embrace of wholistic ministry, referred to as Good News Good Deeds.  This takes numerous forms, initially embodied by a city-wide outreach in the Hub City as part of the annual Boston Winter Conference, which draws students from all over New England and New York.

COUNTRY PROFILE

The Northeastern United States has:

·         8 out of 10 of the US News and World report Best Colleges and Universities

·         Over 500 colleges and universities, 20% of all the 4-year colleges in America

·         2.2 million students, many on campuses where there is yet no evangelical ministry

·         New York City has over 600,000 collegians

·         Thousands of top international students, many from countries closed to the Gospel and/or missionary activity

Political pundit Hugh Hewitt, in his book, In, But Not Of, has a chapter entitled “Move to One of the Three Influential Cities.”  Hewitt identifies New York City as the financial center, Washington, D.C. as the political center, and Los Angeles as the cultural center.  New England is a major provider of intelligentsia for all three, educating the influencers in these influential cities.

Boston is the hub of New England.  Though NYC has more students, no where are there as many in such proximity as in Boston, where there are 45 colleges.  Boston is where the headquarters for Campus Crusade for Christ’s Northeast region is located.

Prayer Request:

  • Pray for CCC to gain an even firmer foothold and for opportunities to expand God’s Kingdom throughout the colleges, universities and high schools of New England and New York.
  • Pray for Kurt to seek the Lord first, to grow deeper in gratitude and humility, to discern the direction of the Lord in all things and to lead in a cross-centered, God-glorifying way.
  • Direction for Susie as she transitions out of a more full-time mother role.
  • Lisa, Mark, and Alex to increasingly behold the majestic power of our God, respond to His love, and follow Him whole-heartedly.
