Serving with Chief in Guatemala
MINISTRY
Isaias is the founder and director of Rutzij Tijonic (Teaching His Word) ministries. The ministry exists to strengthen the Quiche church by training Quiche pastors and church leaders in their native language. The program of study (developed by Isaias) consists of three levels which take the leaders (most of whom have only a second grade education) through the Bible three times in three years. Classes meed once weekly in six centers throughout the Quiche territory. Several leaders trained by the ministry have planted new churches among the Quiches. Currently, the leaders of two new congregations are being trained and mentored by Rutzij Tijonic. They also have radio programs in Quiche, model programs for children, youth, woment and pastor's wives which Ginny, Isaias' wife, directs as well as a community library and typing classes led by the Quiche staff.
How to Pray for the Colop-Xec's:
1. Pray for safety as the staff travels to the teaching centers
2. Pray that God will transform church leaders as they study His word
3. Pray that church leaders will put into practice what they learn
4. Pray for spiritual growth of people in the new congregations and for their leaders
5. Pray for protectioins over their family, their daughter Annie, a freshman at The Master's College, and their staff.
Country Profile
The Colop-Xec's work among the Quiche people of southwestern Guatemala. The Quiches are the largest (numbering two million people) of the 22 indigenous tribes of Mayan descent in Guatemala. Isaias is from the Quiche tribe. There are many churches among the Quiches, but they are making very little impact in the nation. There is much legalism within the church and many mix traditional Mayan beliefs and practices with Christianity. For this reason, the Colop-Xec's are working to teach and train church leaders so that their churches will become beacons of light in a dark place.
