Jonathan & Elena Banegas

Serving with Young Life Catalunya Area - Director in Spain

Ministry: Our personal and general goal is to help establish Young Life ministry in our area and develop and multiply it to the whole Spain. We need to contextualize all Young Life methods, strategies, and philosophy into the Spanish
post-modern adolescent culture of Spain

These are our main goals:

- To recruit, disciple, train and develop leaders in order to be effective tools to reproduce this model and impact the adolescents around them.

- To work closely in partnership and be involved with Local Churches, youth groups and other Christian Youth organizations in reaching non-church adolescents and youth.
- To explore the possibility and develop a strategy to own the first Young Life Camp in Spain.
- To implement the vision of getting fully involved in the community by serving, offering and developing activities and programs that will help us share the Gospel with teens.
- To develop a relational strategy of how to reach the post-modern adolescents in each community where we are going to be involved.
- To consolidate the 5 "C" of Young Life: Contact work, Club, Camps, Campaigners and Committee.

How to Pray for the Banegas Family:

Pray for our leadership starting Young Life ministry. Pray that the Lord  continue to help build in Elena and I the character of His son Jesus in us.

Pray that the Lord help us recruit and train a good leadership team that makes an impact in the teen’s lives by the way the live their Christianity.

Pray for the non Christian Teens we would like to reach with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray for our family, Elena and the girls. Pray the Lord helps them to grow and walk in His ways and help others to follow Jesus. Pray the Lord helps us raise our children with wisdom.

Country Profile:

The current population of Spain is over 44 million people (44,108,530). The significant fact is that although a high percentage of Spaniards consider themselves Roman Catholic, the majority of those same people do not attend mass. Many Evangelicals believe the many disgruntled Spaniards who still profess belief in God outside the Catholic Church would be less reactionary to Evangelicals were it not for the lingering social stigmas against Protestants. Because of this most Spaniards do not appear to be willing to listen to any message presented by Evangelicals.

Spain
today is more than a mission field, It is a neo-pagan field, much more difficult to evangelize than in any previous period of time . Any presentation of the Christian message is met immediately with an attitude of rejection or indifference. Unless Evangelicals find ways to gain a greater understanding of the existing cultural, moral, and religious context of the people, more than likely their words are not going to be more than a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
