Gospel and Context: Apologetics and Post-Modernity
Dale Westervelt
This seven-week course will trace a history of worldviews and look at the implications for believers to understand both the gospel and contemporary culture. Understanding worldview trends—from their roots to their implications—can help believers to live faithfully and engage with our world and our ‘neighbors’ more effectively. This workshop will survey somewhat vast worldview systems in order to better understand: a) What does it mean to say that our culture is “post-modern?”; b) What does it really mean to be ‘in the world but not of the world’ as it relates to broader cultural assumptions and appetites?; and, c) What would it look like to effectively engage in an apologetic exchange with someone who is thoroughly “post-modern?”

Discovery III: Finding your Place of Ministry in the Church
Pastor Ron Elwardt and Gary Balok
Being a Christian means that you have been united to Christ — placed in His body. With that privilege comes the joyful responsibility to serve in and with that body. Christ saves us with a mission in mind, and He gifts us to fulfill a very unique role within that mission. For those unsure of what that unique role is, you are invited to explore your gifts, talents, experiences, and passions towards the end of finding your place within the Lord’s mission.

Shepherding a Child’s Heart (Part I)
Pastor Ron Elwardt

Shepherding a Child’s Heart, a course based on the book and DVD series by the same name, is about learning to speak to the heart of your child. The things your child does and says flow from the heart. Luke 6:45 puts it this way, “...out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.” This course has been developed for parents with children of any age and will provide perspectives and procedures for shepherding your child’s heart in the paths of life. Part I offers the biblical foundations from which the methods and objectives from Part II (offered in the spring) will flow. Every parent, even grandparent, is urged to enroll in the “core” class.

One-on-One Discipleship
Gary Balok

One aspect seen in New Testament discipleship is the intentional spiritual development of individuals either young in faith or non-motivated with the reality of their salvation. As Christians, we are responsible and called to engage other people to understand God’s will as revealed in His Word. In learning how to “disciple” one-on-one, Christians fulfill the Great Commission by instructing those in need and investing their time in the spreading of the Kingdom of God. This concise training/study will equip you to begin and carry on the command of making disciples in a duplicative way.

The Ten Commandments (Part I)
Karen Fye
The Ten Commandments are so much more than a limited set of rules that God wants us to obey. They are God’s heart for His people — the law that was put in charge to lead us to Christ. Each commandment should cut us to the heart and bring us to repentance and to Christ. Being emptied, the Lord wants to show us that as we are filled with His love, we can then begin to walk in a way that fulfills these commandments. Thinking further, we also see that each of these commandments give us a glimpse of God’s very character. The study’s 21 lessons (September through April), are based on the Logos curriculum. Each class includes homework questions, discussion, and prayer. An added blessing— the study of God’s word together leads to a wonderful fellowship among all participants.

Join us in this very revealing and entertaining study that will be useful in your personal life and in your witness to others.

Memory and Scripture
Gordon Donaldson
No doubt every Christian, at some time, has memorized a few Bible verses. Yet, some think they cannot memorize, or are too old to do so! But perhaps few have looked into the principles involved in strengthening one’s ability to memorize. This class is on memory development with the Scriptures in mind. Our objective is not just the memorizing of verses as such, but the training of the mind to memorize, through the use of the “laws of memory.” Obviously, our aim will be to equip one for grasping Scripture in this manner — to carry it within one’s thinking and apply its truth, when a Bible may not be accessible.
